Description

A hands-on workshop for kids at the Cincinnati Public Library Makerspace where participants built simple oscillator and noise generator synthesizers using Arduino microcontrollers. Over the course of a little more than an hour, young makers learned to wire breadboard circuits with potentiometers, speakers, and photoresistors, then programmed their Arduinos to produce and manipulate sound. Turning knobs changed pitch and tone while covering and uncovering photoresistors let participants shape sound with light and shadow, giving them an immediate, physical connection to electronics and sound design fundamentals.
