Description
Suspended speakers hung above bowls in a gallery space. As participants swung the bowls, the physical movement created an acoustic filtering effect on the tones played through the speakers overhead — the swinging bowl acting as a moving reflector and baffle that shaped the sound in real time. Like the Lights iteration, the piece explored audience participation and the slow decay of pendulum motion as a compositional tool, but where Lights used photocells and bell triggers, Bowls worked through direct physical acoustics — the relationship between a moving surface and a fixed sound source.
